Obviously every job is different, that’s why I ask to see the work first. Similarly you want to know up-front what it’s going to cost you, which is why I offer a firm quote once I have reviewed the work.

But at the same time you want some indication of my prices in comparison with the competition. I give a quote based on an hourly rate multiplied by a realistic estimate of the number of hours the work will take, including an allowance for one round of corrections. These hourly rates are the minimum rates listed by the Society for Editors and Proofreaders and are listed below. However, please note, once a quote is given it is fixed and valid for the stated period (normally 30 days).

Type of work hourly rate
Proofreading from £22.50
Copy-editing from £26.20
Substantial editing, rewriting, development editing from £30.20
Scoping and proofreading court transcripts see Scoping and proofreading court transcripts page
Project management from £32.60
Indexing from £23.00**

For a quote please send your manuscript or copy to along with the deadline and indicating whether you want the quote in sterling, US dollars or Euro. Or contact us by phone or using the form below.
